Petra Water Channels
Background
One of the main hydraulic technologies employed at Petra was the use of rock cut water channels. These water channels provided a constant stream of water and also helped alleviate the impact that the torrential rains would have on the arid environment.
In addition to supplying the city of Petra with water they also helped protect it from the damage of flash floods. Overall this represents yet another ancient technology that serves multiple purposes, both providing a resource necessary for the maintenance of civilization as well as providing some sort of protection against natural disasters that uniquely affect the region.
